EPCNYC ANNOUNCES PETITION FOR EQUAL PAY

As part of the 2009 Equal Pay Day activities, EPCNYC rolled out our Petition for Fair Pay and gathered leaders to speak out for Pay Equity.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney-co-sponsor, U.S. Paycheck Fairness Act, representatives for NYS Senator Craig M. Johnson-lead sponsor of the NYS Fair Pay Act), as well as NYS Senator Diane Savino-co-sponsor, NYS Fair Pay Act), NYC Councilmember Darlene Mealy-Chair, Women’s Issues Committee, Councilmember John Liu, and cast members of new Broadway musical “9 to 5”attended NYWA’s EPCNYC press conference on April 24, 2009. All spoke out in support of the Federal and State legislation on pay equity.
Approximately 40 people gathered at Women’s eNews, including press and legislators and many women representing the 35 women’s organizations of NYWA’s Equal Pay Coalition NYC.
Women wore red, to show how far women and people of color are in the red as a result of the wage gap. In honor of Lilly Ledbetter, lilies were distributed. (Photo: Marily Abalos)
