Despite the real threat that the Women’s Workforce Bill would not come to the floor before the end of session today, it was brought to a vote late Wednesday evening and passed 60 to 0!!!
We greatly appreciate the strong leadership of the bill sponsors, Assembly member Ellen Jaffee (D) and Senator Joseph Robach (R). As well, we thank the Senate and its leadership who heard from women across the state and responded with the first piece of legislation that acknowledges and addresses the gender wage gap.
More needs to be done to create economic equity, but passing this bill signals a willingness of our Legislature to work with Equal Pay advocates toward needed change through bi-partisan collaboration. This is truly a “win” for New York State.
We anticipate that Governor Cuomo will sign the bill!
